MYUSIC, the debut album by Okinawan model / actress Yu Yamada  is decidedly average, exactly the type of fare you expect to hear from a crossover entertainer. While Yamada can sing well her voice is very heavy while simultaneously being nasal, not quite sure how she pulls this off, but she does. Although the album is mediocre a few tracks stand out like deep synth laden [Cosmic Ride]. The best album only track is a stomping dance number, [Holla!] and is rather mindless, vocally strained blather except for the beat. Slowing down, [little raindrop] is a pretty song with tinkling chimes and a sweet melody. Single [fiesta!fiesta!], a pseudo-Latin track which uses Spanish instead of English as its go-to language, something interesting and unexpected from JPop; basically details why love is so, so, like, so much like, you know, a fiesta! Groundbreaking lyrical ground here, folks. Paris Hilton would be so proud. The rest of the album features Koda Kumi throwaways and capable, if boring vocals. The last bright spot before the album closes is [REAL YOU], Yamada’s debut single in which a massive multi-instrumental disco kickback plays with impressive vocals and a gorgeous melody. If she could have built an album off this she would have produced something much more desirable and lasting. Unfortunately, MYUSIC is a throwaway pop album with little to retain its value but for the moment is in vogue and danceable at the very least.
