あなたがいる限り ~A World to Believe In~

A reverberating dizzying array of violins and synth capture us into the first verse, sang by Dion. Ito-san sings the pre-chorus and then they combine for the chorus. Their voices complement each other very well. Céline makes the lower harmony while Yuna takes the upper. The music is fits easily into the adult contemporary genre and sticks there. I find it very wonderous that Céline sings some Japanese and doesn’t mess it up. The song is very powerful and beautiful. Unfortunately, it’s not the greatest ballad I’ve ever heard. There isn’t anything wrong with it particularly it just misses a lot of the sparkle you expect from these two outstanding vocalists.

After hearing Yuna Ito’s amazing cover of “My Heart Will Go On”, Céline contacted her to sing a duet to reach out to the lucrative Japanese market and increase international sales of her newest album Taking Chances. While her album only sports a few breakout songs, it did gain numbers after the song was released.

TOKIO HOT 100 Chart and Oricon Performance Analysis:

Debuting on the charts a week earlier than the actual release date, this collaboration climbed over the course of three weeks to break the Top 20 at #18 before falling quickly off the charts by the middle of February. Oricon saw mediocre sales (11,778), clinching #8 on its debut week. It fell quickly out of the Top Ten and into the twenties. That is one reason that Oricon is not a good judge of how popular a song is because it only shows sales, not airplay.
