BUT
Lyrics: Koda Kumi / Composition: Tommy Henrikson
3:37

From the man who brought us ‘FREAKY‘, I give you ‘BUT’: a “destructive, four-on-the-floor dance track”. And that about sums it up, folks. Deep, penetrating synth booms, some heavily distorted electric guitar, and different arrangement of the same elements of ‘FREAKY’, isn’t music fun? Although, the chorus is amazing… “You know you love youself, BUT!“. Quite the hook, right there. And… the music video, wow… what could she possibly do to top that? I probably don’t want to know…

愛証
(Aishou)
(Proof of Love)
Lyrics: Koda Kumi / Composition: Reika Yuuki / Arrangement: Masaki Iehara
3:53

This ballad is all about the acoustic guitar. There are some strings and synth (as always), but for the most part, it the same picking with some screaming electric guitar pulled in for edge. It’s emotive and a bit grand, but nothing we haven’t heard from her, right?

BUT ~Ghettobots Remix~
Special: First Press Bonus Track
3:51

*Deep, penetrating bass line, with a few violin chords flung in for good measure, Koda Kumi’s sexy voice, and an even more thumping beat at the chorus (comprising of cymbals, a bass drum, and synth all mashed together): making one rocking club track. It’s a really cool remix of a very good dance song.

This was a great single, and probably would have been #1 if it hadn’t been for Utada Hikaru’s Flavor of Life. It at least knocked it off #1 for a day or two…

  1. Favorite Koda Kumi song and one of my favorite songs period.

    Biased? Maybe.

But who cares about bias when it comes to such amazing dance tracks? XD

  2. Oh god do I love dance music! lol… this was my favorite song on Kingdom until I heard ‘Under’ and ‘Amai Wana’… definitely get those if you can!

  3. […] This is a masterful place for this song as it fits the same mood as ‘Under’. If ‘Under’ didn’t do it for you, ‘BUT’ sure will… You may find the review at BUT / 愛証. […]
