Amazing

This song starts with a music box / lullaby and then transitions into a ballad inspired riff which morphs into a heavy rock sound. “Amazing” sounds like a lot of material they’ve released in the past, but for some reason I don’t seem to care too much. The same punk-esque heavy beat carries through the entire song, the same backup vocals in the chorus, the same transition to the chorus from the verses… same rap part… I like the heavy metal aspect on occasion (I am not a big fan of metal, but I like it on occasion). Maki’s voice is absolutely amazing as usual. But this song is really spectacular in that it has all of their marked styles but incorporates them in a fresh way that lets you enjoy a new song without constantly wishing it didn’t sound like something they’ve already done. On a side note, they managed to not massacre the word ‘amazing’.

Secret Heart

I like the American feel that the first B-side carries. The beat is really cool all in itself. A grinding, halting rhythm that makes you wanna rock out! The chorus is downright marvelous, too. The harmonies in the backgrond are really heavy and beautiful and make a very distinct contrast between the masculine instrumental and screaming with the feminine vocals and melody line. As usual though, the guitars really add a great punch!

Parade

Parade is an interesting release from them, while carrying their signature sound; it relies heavily on a pop sound. The chorus is especially poppy with a very catchy melody. Pop/rock sounds really good with them, as it did with RUNRUNRUN. For some reason it sounded like Maki was channeling a much, much rockier version of Kawabe Chieco. Don’t ask…

I haven’t listened to HaMC in a while and that may be why I liked this single so much, but it really was a good single release from them. The stylelistically correctness of ‘Amazing’ with the pop sounding ‘Parade’ really close off a well-rounded musical style and should have done better, but they’ve never been able to repeat the success of their first single, which is sad because they are a really good band.

  1. It really is saddening. All the love that could be for Amazing is probably going towards recycled Morning Musume. pop songs or sucky boybands.
Almost forgot, I was wondering if you would like to exchange links?

  2. I happen to love pop songs… but if you meant Morning Musume pop songs then I will have to agree with you… but good pop is good… just saying :D

  3. Yep, I meant Morning Musume. Koda Kumi’s Lady Go! is an example of good pop.
Thanks for the heads up on Namie. Going through your posts, I’ll tread lightly.
